Coming of age within regional Queensland is an experience saturated with the images and identifiers of a male dominated culture; where sports, agriculture, and 'hard yakka' reign supreme. Combining documentary photography with site-specific performance, Sugar explores existing tensions within femininity, womanhood and familial identity. Performing within the artist’s grandmother’s home, and using tactile objects and materials, the images work to reclaim and reflect upon the rural and inherited feminine.
