The feminine experience is rife with tensions and contradictions. Combining still life with performance and tactile imagery, Gently, Gently explores these existing tensions within femininity, womanhood and familial identity, attempting to reflect, reconcile and reclaim a more multidimensional feminine identity. Pale floral wallpaper and luscious fabrics set the stage for intuitive play as I reflect upon my experiences and frustrations as a young woman raised in various parts of regional and metropolitan Queensland. The result is familiar yet unfamiliar, seductive but absurd.
